Cashyou, the HK based P2P mobile payment app, is an alumni and winner of the Startup Weekend Hong Kong 2014. Co-founded by Kif Hong, Daniel Chan, and Jacky Chiu, the team went on continuing the project and prototyping after winning the “Best Mobile App” award at SWHK 2014. Kif studied in Seattle and has a background in design and Bitcoin. Daniel is a HKU grad and is responsible with marketing and relationships. Jacky, studied in London, was previously a pro fighter, and now a freelance web developer.
Cashyou takes on a mixed approach of virtual currency and traditional digital payment gateway to offer a safe and convenient way for people to pay or charge friends any free and instant small payments by simply scanning a QR code with a smartphone. Each user has their own Cashyou QR wallet address after they have signed up, and friends can pay by scanning it or directly choosing from Facebook friend list if they have a linked Facebook account. So, in situations like when there is a birthday party and one person has paid for the cake, friends can just pay back quickly using Cashyou. With a goal to help eliminating frequent but small changes between people and avoiding hefty cross bank transfer fee, Cashyou wants to bring Hong Kong a social cashless experience.
By the end of the weekend during SWHK in April 2014, Kif, Daniel, and Jacky had already built an initial demo app. In May, the team continued refining their business model and their prototype, and became a semi-finalist at Cocoon Pitch Night. They were later interviewed by the CUHK entrepreneurship department. In June, Cashyou successfully made it to the top 40 teams at Google EYE program, and is now being mentored by Cyberport CTO Dvaid Chung. In July, Cashyou won the “Talent Unleashed Award – East Asia Winner” award and is now competing globally. Also in July, the team has granted a micro fund by Cyberport CCMF, and has planned to launch hopefully by the end of the year.
Cashyou is now looking for investors, and is raising votes at the Talent Unleashed global people’s choice competition. If you would like to support Cashyou, the SWHK alumni, feel free to go to http://talentunleashed.co/vote/ and choose “Daniel Chan – Rising Star – Central & East Asia” and vote for them.
