Hundreds of Startup Weekends will take place on that same weekend to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week. Charles Mok

Legislative Councilor (Information Technology), HKSAR   |  

Mr. Charles Mok is the Legislative Councilor representing the Information Technology Functional Constituency of the Hong Kong SAR.

Charles is well known as one of the ICT industry leaders and Internet pioneers in Hong Kong, and one of the most out-spoken IT professionals who advocates the application of ICT in the Hong Kong community. He is the Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation and the Past Chair of the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association. In 2006, he co-founded the Internet Society Hong Kong, the local chapter of Internet Society, the global technology and advocacy body for the Internet.

Charles has also maintained close ties with the international IT community. He serves as the Chairman of the Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organization (APRALO), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) which facilitates the alignment of the Internet development in Hong Kong with the international pace and trends.

Further to his work in ICT, Charles is active in public services with a view to uphold and safeguard the core values of Hong Kong of which include democracy, liberty, human rights, rule of law and integrity. He serves as a member of the Consultation Panel of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and, CreateSmart Initiative Vetting Committee. He is an elected member of the Election Committee (IT Subsector) since 1998. As regards to his engagement in the civil society, Charles is the Chairman of the Professional Commons, a cross-sector professional think tank. He is also a member of the Management Committee of Cyber Senior Network Development Association and, a director of Hong Kong Democratic Foundation.

Besides the legislature and his public and community services, Charles is a director of two ICT companies.

Charles graduated from the Purdue University in the United States with his Master degree of Science in Electrical Engineering and his Bachelor degree of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering.

Casey Lau

SoftLayer Catalyst Community Manager, APAC & Co-Founder of StartupsHK   |  

Casey Lau is one of the Hong Kong tech start-up pioneers starting in 1998 with HK's first e-commerce site specialising in collectible action figures which was sold to Richard Li's PCCW group in 2000, he also co-counded Velocity9, a multimedia design studio sold in 2002 and the Popcorn Network, a digital media company that publishes luxury shopping sites.

He is a leader and an influencer in Hong Kong's growing social media industry having developed a strong presence on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms and has consulted Hong Kong businesses on best practices in their digital marketing and design.

He is one of the original co-founders of StartupsHK, Hong Kong's premiere startup community creating events for startups to meet and share. He is also the newly appointed Community Developer for SoftLayer's Catalyst program in Asia-Pacific providing virtual incubator services for startups across the region.

In between obeying the orders of his British Shorthair, he tries to find time to write new iPad comic books like Super Kaiju Hero Force.

Jennifer Liu

Founder of caffe HABITU   |  

Jennifer Liu is a well established female serial entrepreneur based in Hong Kong. She is the Founder & Chairman of ‘JWF International Limited’ and ‘Sir Hudson Hospitality Limited’, which operates 30 outlets in retail, cafes/restaurants, The Coffee Academy and Roasting Studio and a 5000 square feet food production kitchen. Her enterprise employs 450 people under the brands ‘THE ACADEMICS’, ‘HABITŪ’, ‘Suzuki Cafe Co.’ and various others.Her latest business ventures include the two storey flagship ‘THE ACADEMICS’ which comprises of coffee, tea, chocolates and skin care. She heads the ‘JWF Design Associates’ - a boutique design house specializes in hospitality and retail receiving international recognition.

Jennifer graduated from Cornell University New York, with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. She is also a member of the Owner/President Program 2013 of Harvard Business School.

A firm believer in Corporate Social Responsibility, Jennifer goes to great lengths to support different charity events. Most notably, however, is her contribution and key role as the co-convenor of NarrativeHK, a NGO on the exploration of a common 20 year vision of Hong Kong with over 100 active corporate and individual members since its incorporation in Oct 2012.

Jochen Kleef

Jochen is a strategy and business management expert with exceptional inter-cultural experience. He has had P&L responsibility for a number of Professional Services businesses of various sizes in both Europe and Asia. His experience spans from growing a team from zero to 6 staff to a turnover of over EUR1.2m with a 20%+ profitability to large teams of up to 4,000 staff in 70 locations across China. The common theme for all the businesses entrusted upon him was that, after a short strategic review, he implemented the turnaround measures identified and grew these businesses – on average doubling revenues every two years.
Jochen has a focus on the sustainability industry. He owns a strategy consulting firm between Hong Kong and Singapore helping & enabling companies in the green industry to strive. His own start-up Ecopoint has recently been voted as one of the 10 Hottest Startups to watch out for in 2012 by Hong Kong Business Magazine.

Stephen Forte

Stephen Forte is the Chief Strategy Officer of the venture backed company, Telerik, a leading vendor of developer and team productivity tools. Involved in several startups, he was the co-founder of Triton Works, which was acquired by UBM (London: UBM.L) in 2010 and was the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Corzen, Inc., which was acquired by Wanted Technologies (TXV: WAN) in 2007. Prior to Corzen, Stephen served as the CTO of Zagat Survey in New York City (acquired by Google in 2011) and also was co-founder of the New York-based software consulting firm The Aurora Development Group. Stephen is also a Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Professional, PMP, and also speaks regularly at industry conferences around the world. He has written several books on application and database development. Stephen has an MBA from the City University of New York. Stephen is also a board member of the Scrum Alliance. An avid mountain climber, Stephen leads a trek in the Mt. Everest region every fall to raise money for charity. Stephen lives in Hong Kong with his wife.

Jean-Marc Ly

Jean-Marc Ly is an entrepreneur and traveler from Silicon Valley and has founded CityWise and TaxiWise, which are incubated in Startup Bootcamp and Accelerator HK. He is also a wedding photographer focusing on photojournalism, and has been involved in growing Hong Kong’s startup ecosystem. During Startup Weekend, Jean-Marc will be helping entrepreneurs with their ideas, customer validation, business model canvas, pitches and presentation.

Paul Orlando

Paul Orlando is Director of AcceleratorHK and also started and runs another program called Startup Bootcamp, now on its second cohort. He's focused on doing whatever he can to help startups in HK and also created a site to track HK startups. Previously, he co-founded a startup in New York and worked in telecom in China. You can usually find him discussing business models at coffee shops around town.

William Liang

William spent 12 years in Silicon Valley and started his career on Wall Street. He worked for several venture backed Internet startups including Tellme, which was successfully acquired by Microsoft. He holds a B.S. degree from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania in Systems and Electrical Engineering. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, director of Idea Mill Ltd., and a cofounder of HackJam HK, Hong Kong’s first hackerspace community.

Jeffrey Broer

Jeffrey, an entrepreneur with solid experience in dealing with various business situations, represents now the core business expertise and capabilities of Surround App where he is Co-Founder.
He is currently CCO and Co-founder of (2008), Co-Founder of Surround App (2012) and Founder of Grayscale LTD (2011). He was Co-Founder of Goldpoint (1998) and Founder of Compactive (1995).
Currently he’s working on a tech startup which is backed by Accelerator HK. Surround App is a non-native hybrid mobile app that allaws Non-Chinese speakers to engage with Chinese social media.

His knowledge and expertise cover the whole supply chain from initial product development to ultimate marketing programs. This is shown through 2 other companies he founded and is running in Europe and Hong Kong.

Stuart Corby

Stuart Corby came to Hong Kong in 2000 with the investment bank UBS to design and run its Asian electronic and algorithmic trading business.

In 2002 he founded a environmental investment company I&W that sourced and supplied environmentally friendly medical waste processing machinery that is still processing the majority of London's low grade contaminated hospital waste.

In 2004 he was a founding director of the environmentally friendly packaging company bio-supplies which was bought out by a group of british investors in 2007.

Stuart also advised on the purchase and then served as a non executive board member for a secure printing company in Australia that printed Australia, New Zealand and several European countries' postage stamps and served as COO for a Hong Kong company that was restructuring from owner operator to medium size enterprise.

Stuart currently holds three director positions:
- at ISIG Ltd a Hong Kong company that is focused on the interaction between your physical and your electronic world.
- at Corum Ltd a major works & construction project management company in Hong Kong.
- at Sunergy Pty an Australian based environmental research company.

Stuart loves the outdoor environment having spent his summers while at University working for Outward Bound in Australia, for learning needs camps in America, and for four seasons as a class IV/V whitewater rafting guide on the west coast of the USA
