So here is the deal. Friday 12 – Sunday 14 April, in M21 Aberdeen – your opportunity to bring business ideas to reality. Or to work with others in a team to design and build a business. No talk, all action – go out and talk to potential customers. Validate your ideas and execution. During the weekend you will be supported by a team of experienced mentors to maximise the learning.

Ticket price will be $290 HKD for designers, developers and students, and $400 HKD for business people. Price includes 6 meals, drinks and snacks from Friday night to Sunday night!

Paul Orlando

Program Director

Paul Orlando started and runs Startups Unplugged Lean Startup Bootcamp, a startup pre-accelerator, now in its third cohort. He is also Co-founder of AcceleratorHK, a mobile startup accelerator. Previously, he co-founded a startup in New York and worked in telecom in China. He prefers to work with early-stage startups (pre product-market fit) in small numbers and with intensity. You can usually find him discussing business models around town and you can buy him a coffee or beer anytime (beer preferred).

Paul has a BA from Cornell and an MBA from Columbia. He has presented data and entrepreneurial tales at startup events in Asia and the US, including InvestHK, Good Lab, BizSpark, Make a Difference Asia, Columbia, StartupsHK, Kairos Society, TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon, DorkBot, the Levin Institute and others. He is fluent in Mandarin, his Cantonese is good enough to work as a daipaidong waiter and MC at Barcamp Hong Kong, he gets by in Adobe Illustrator and is slowly learning more JavaScript.

Andrew Kwan

CEO Peacock

Andrew is cofounder and CEO of Peacock (http://getpeacock.com). Before entrepreneurship, he worked in software engineering at Yahoo, where he was responsible for performance of the US homepage. Previously he was at SugarSync, where he worked on the webapp for their consumer cloud platform.

He received his BA in economics from Harvard, MS in computer science and MS in management science & engineering from Stanford.

Elaine Ann

Elaine has helped Startups steer their products in right direction and strategized User Experiences, so investors will bite and users will rave about. Elaine has helped multiple Startup businesses in Hong Kong with their user experience and business strategy including CNNGo (internal startup of CNN), iMerchants Beanstalk Wealth Management, GoAnimate, Wisers Information, Darizi, AirGini etc. In 2008 she worked with single entrepreneur GoAnimate to strategize and design the User Experience of a prototype in 1 month that raised US$1.4million in SV angel funding that later became one of the ‘coolest’ app on Facebook and featured on CNN.com.

Elaine is also a veteran of the early dot-com era in the mid 90's working in the U.S. for companies such as Razorfish, Philips Design in New York and Silicon Valley and have designed the User Experiences of some of the very early Internet/technology businesses such as Schwab.com, Intuit's Quicken, Philips Networked Home etc.. Elaine did her
undergrad and Masters at Carnegie Mellon with a Masters in Interaction Design and Visual Communications for undergrad. She is also an alumni of the Stanford Executive Education Design Thinking Bootcamp and EMBA of the Cheung Kong Business School. Elaine is also on the Advisory Committee for both IVE and HK PolyU School of Design and have been training corporates and students alike on User Experience and New Product/Services Innovation for the past 10 years. She runs a successful innovation consultancy Kaizor Innovation and also have a new startup Czearch with eye-popping User Experience right from the start.

Dr. Edwin Lee

Founder & CEO, BridgeWay Business Builder & Broker Co., Ltd.

Edwin established BridgeWay (Former HKBI) after being laid off as an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York post the 911 attack in 2001. In these 11 years, BridgeWay has grown from a one-man company to become the leading business startup consulting company adopting the Business Build Operate-Transfer (BOT) model with nearly 300 staff in Hong Kong. As of December 31, 2012, BridgeWay has completed 1,078 business sales transactions and built 72 businesses for entrepreneurs to purchase as ready-made-businesses.

BridgeWay was awarded the 2008 Quality Award by the Hong Kong Management Association, which is widely recognized as the highest business accolade for organizational excellence. Edwin was the youngest and first non American Chairman in the 29-year history of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), the world’s largest association for business brokers based in Chicago, USA. Edwin is currently the Chairman of the Social Enterprise Committee of the Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power, which oversees 8 social enterprises that train over 150 disabled workers to rejoin the open workforce every year.

Edwin is a U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI). Edwin received his B.S. Finance and M.S. Accounting from University of Southern California, USA. He has completed his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a research focus in entrepreneurial motivation and decision making. Currently, Edwin is enrolled in the 3-year Owner President/ Management Program at Harvard Business School to better prepare BridgeWay for future endeavors.

Edwin is one of the awardees of the 2011 Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection organized by Junior Chamber International, which recognizes his contribution to promoting entrepreneurship in Hong Kong and helping the people with physical disabilities for open employment.

Ms. Joyce Chan

Chief Corporate Development and Compliance Officer

Joyce Chan is the Chief Corporate Development and Compliance Officer of Lee Heng Diamond Group which has been one of Asia’s largest and most respectable diamond wholesaler and owns retail brands of Falconer, Mabros, Madia and Ma Belle. She is responsible for the group’s strategic direction and corporate development and in-charge of the Compliance Department. She joined the group this year.

Ms. Chan holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a OneMBA issued by five partner universities in four continents. She is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants.

Prior to joining the group, Ms. Chan had worked as a General Manager of Corporate Development Department in a listed company which is one of the constituent stocks of Heng Seng Index and was the head of corporate finance and public relationship functions. She was in charge of some high-profile transactions, namely, formation of a joint venture with Kirin in China, disposal of Esprit China, acquisition of Pacific Coffee and disposal of the minority interest in Hutchison terminal. Also, she had worked in international accounting firms, served as a Chief Financial Officer in a Japanese company in Tokyo, Japan, and worked for a Hong Kong regulatory authority. Ms. Chan has an extensive knowledge in audit and advisory, corporate finance and regulatory compliance.

Charles Mok

Legislative Councilor (Information Technology), HKSAR   |  

Mr. Charles Mok is the Legislative Councilor representing the Information Technology Functional Constituency of the Hong Kong SAR.

Charles is well known as one of the ICT industry leaders and Internet pioneers in Hong Kong, and one of the most out-spoken IT professionals who advocates the application of ICT in the Hong Kong community. He is the Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation and the Past Chair of the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association. In 2006, he co-founded the Internet Society Hong Kong, the local chapter of Internet Society, the global technology and advocacy body for the Internet.

Charles has also maintained close ties with the international IT community. He serves as the Chairman of the Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organization (APRALO), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) which facilitates the alignment of the Internet development in Hong Kong with the international pace and trends.

Further to his work in ICT, Charles is active in public services with a view to uphold and safeguard the core values of Hong Kong of which include democracy, liberty, human rights, rule of law and integrity. He serves as a member of the Consultation Panel of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and, CreateSmart Initiative Vetting Committee. He is an elected member of the Election Committee (IT Subsector) since 1998. As regards to his engagement in the civil society, Charles is the Chairman of the Professional Commons, a cross-sector professional think tank. He is also a member of the Management Committee of Cyber Senior Network Development Association and, a director of Hong Kong Democratic Foundation.

Besides the legislature and his public and community services, Charles is a director of two ICT companies.

Charles graduated from the Purdue University in the United States with his Master degree of Science in Electrical Engineering and his Bachelor degree of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering.

Felix Lam

Felix has been involved in technology and manufacturing business throughout his career, co-founded business ventures which include internet service provider, software companies, distribution business and business consultancy with ongoing success & exits. He is currently the Executive Board Member for TiE Hong Kong and Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Cocoon, a co-working space for a vibrant community of entrepreneurs. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network (HKBAN) and serves as a mentor & vetting committee member for a number of startup incubators and business angel programmes in the region.

Felix is the co-founder for Makible, a 3D printing technology company and runs a manufacturing operation in Hong Kong/China for fashion accessory products in the global markets. He also serves as an advisor for Kleef & Co., a consultancy on sustainability and green ventures in Asia.

Prior to that, he held engineering, sales & marketing positions for Alcatel-Lucent, Hewlett-Packard and Nortel Networks in the Asia Pacific region. He holds a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) and Master of Engineering Science in Telecommunications from the University of New South Wales. Felix was awarded the Australian Students Prize in 1990.

Cedric Delzenne

Cedric Delzenne is the founder of ShopDesCreateurs.com, the 1st online sales & marketing agency for top emerging fashion designers willing to tap into booming markets in Asia.

Graduated from EDHEC Business School, Cedric moved to Hong Kong in 2010 to launch his own company. He was previously a senior management consultant at Eurogroup Consulting Group in Paris and a marketing consultant at WiGear in San Francisco.

Steven Kopec

Steven has been in Information Technology for more than 15 years. He came to Turner Broadcasting in 2000 as a Systems Analyst and in 2007 moved to Hong Kong where he is currently Director, Emerging Technology. In this role, Steven has a focus on connected devices, advanced television and audience analytics as Turner Broadcasting evolves to compete in a more connected world. Most recently, his efforts have included work on mobile product creation, alternate content distribution technologies, digital education and social content discovery and creation.

In his past, Steven has also held many roles including those of Information Security Program Manager, Systems Analyst and Programmer. He attended the University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC with a major in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Richard Codron

CEO & Co-Founder of Locoaliiz.com

Richard Codron is a marketing graduate from the University of Aston, in Birmingham, UK. Since leaving university in 1982 he has set up and run several entrepreneurial businesses in the UK. He moved to Hong Kong in 1993 and worked with the China Bicycle Company establishing a unique range of bicycles and related accessories, then went on to work for Nike in the Asia Pacific Regional office. In 1998 he set up and established a highly successful computer parts trading company that sold products globally. Having sold out in 2011, he co-founded and is currently the CEO of Localliiz.com, the fastest growing online directory and marketing platform targeting SME’s in Hong Kong. As a long time Hong Kong resident he strongly believes in businesses that can bring innovation, new technologies, and added value services.

Steve Holmes

Steve is co-founder, project manager and sometimes software craftsman at Thought-Sauce where the team helps multiple startups turn their ideas into real working software including, refer.me, mamasan.com, advanced-pay.com, 3rdhome.com and zipets.com.

He has worked in the industry for 18 years, working on a distinguished number of successful software projects from a nuclear power station control system to financial systems. Steve is a passionate advocate of Agile development and has helped run the Agile HK community group, HK Ruby on Rails meetup and currently is a co-organiser of the Codeaholics meetup for developers in HK.

Stephen Forte

Stephen Forte is the Chief Strategy Officer of the venture backed company, Telerik, a leading vendor of developer and team productivity tools. Involved in several startups, he was the co-founder of Triton Works, which was acquired by UBM (London: UBM.L) in 2010 and was the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Corzen, Inc., which was acquired by Wanted Technologies (TXV: WAN) in 2007. Prior to Corzen, Stephen served as the CTO of Zagat Survey in New York City (acquired by Google in 2011) and also was co-founder of the New York-based software consulting firm The Aurora Development Group.

Stephen is also a Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Professional, PMP, and also speaks regularly at industry conferences around the world. He has written several books on application and database development.

He is co-founder of Hong Kongs first accelerator program, acceleratorhk.com

Stephen has an MBA from the City University of New York. Stephen is also a board member of the Scrum Alliance. An avid mountain climber, Stephen leads a trek in the Mt. Everest region every fall to raise money for charity. Stephen lives in Hong Kong with his wife.
